Biography
First years (1996-2001)
The original lineup of Julian "Panda" Foucault (vocals), Simon "Saim" Thévenet (guitars) and Jérôme "Jerry" Farion (drums), of the band Past Hell, went to high school together and first formed the band in 1996 with Baloo on second guitar and Babar on bass. According to Panda and Saim they had no ambition in the beginning.
Panda and Vinz, of Past Hell, decided to call the group Pitbulls in the Nursery in 1997 as a joke. The name was very funny and quite unusual for a metal group so it was easy for the band to keep and still remains unchanged to this day.
After 4 years there were a few lineup changes, notably with the departure of Babar being replaced by Guillaume on bass, then the departure of Baloo from second guitar. The 4 remaining members decided to start writing again and review how serious they were about the band. In 2001 Jerry talked with Mathieu "Mat" Commun (guitar), of the group Season, about joining on second guitar right before a concert and he agreed to join PITN. The now complete lineup decides to professionally record and produce their first record.
Impact (2001)
At the beginning of 2001, PITN record Impact (demo) and the album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Alexis Phélipot (ex-Droÿs, ex-Misanthropist) in just 5 days. The album contains the songs "Monkey's Masturbation", "Strong" and "Impact" which are some of the first songs PITN ever wrote back in 1997.
Having influences from Dying Fetus, Death, Atheist and Meshuggah the demo was highly regarded and the first press of 200 copies was insufficient so they had a second pressing of 500 copies made which allowed the group to continue it's promotion. PITN performs with other big name bands such as Aborted, Gojira, Gronibard, [band]Kaizen[/band, [band]No Return[/band, Yyrkoon, Korum, Klone, Benighted and Trepalium. It is also during this time the group meets the designer Geoffroy Thoorens and he becomes the band's graphic designer and light engineer.
After the departure of Guillaume, for personal reasons, François "Francesco" Ugarte completes the lineup on bass. This formation will remain unchanged until 2007.
This first success marks a decisive turn for the future of PITN.
In turned (2003-2007)
On the success of their demo, Impact, PITN participated in more than 100 concerts throughout Europe between 2003 and 2007. They shared the stage with some of the most renowned bands such as Gojira, Cynic, Black Bomb A, No Return, 7th Nemesis, Extremist Vomits, In Quest, Aborted, Klone, Benighted, Trepalium and Hacride and got to play in some of the most prestigious venues in France such as The Loco (Paris), Zenith (Paris), The New Casino (Paris), The Factory (Geneva), Barbey (Bordeaux) and many more.
This growing success pushes the group to new higher ambitions in the scene as well as in the studio with their first LP in the writing stage.
On July 11, 2005 the group announces they will have a song on the French metal compilation album Revolution Calling where they will debut the song "Lunatic Factory".
Lunatic (2006)
On October 6, 2005 PITN announces they have officially signed with the Greek distribution label Black Allotted Records for their first album titled Lunatic.
The album was recorded in 3 weeks at a studio in Milan and produced by John Rock Bouquet. It was released on February 13, 2006 with a booklet and envelope drawn by Geoffroy Thoorens, the same artist from Impact. The album contains re-recorded versions of the 3 songs from Impact, with their new bassist, as well as 8 new songs.
The critics rave with positive reviews praising the technicality and virtuosity of the musicians as well as the will of the group to not limit itself to just death metal. Critics also gave lots of praise to the production and to the vocalist who remained in the death metal register, while the musicians do not hesitate to separate from death metal they portray a mixture of Indian sounds and metal in the hidden track at the end of the album.
This first album and the live energy of the group attract the attention of the Polish guitar company Mayones Guitars who offer to build signature guitars for Mat and Saim that same year.
Uncertainties (2006-Present)
A first hard blow arises on June 21, 2006 when Black Allotted Records suddenly announces their bankruptcy which causes the de facto cancellation of the contract between PITN and the label.
On October 17, 2007 the group announces the departure of original vocalist and co-founder Panda, his last concert with PITN was performed on November 24 at The Fortress in Paris with Hacride as the headliner.
Panda was replaced by vocalist Cédric of Supertanker.
The group fires Cédric in March 2010. On April 20, 2010 PITN announces on their site and Facebook page that they are searching for a new vocalist.
This change does not prevent the group from working on their second album. PITN also decides to perform some of it's new songs instrumentally at the Festival Metal on July 4 at Café de la Plage in Maurepas.
The group announced the addition of their new vocalist Tersim Backle (ex-Small/Würm) and that they are in the process of writing new material for their next album.
